Pottery Repair Explained

Pottery Repair Explained

Do you have a favourite mug that’s in two or three (or more) pieces? I can put it back together for you.

Contact me and I’ll email back so you can send me photos.

For your repair, you can choose from five types of pottery repairs:

  • Clear repair
  • Repair with dark grey glue (for use with hot food and drink)
  • faux-kintsugi using the clear glue
  • faux-kintsugi using the dark grey glue (for hot food and drink)
  • True kintsugi (kintsukuroi)

(Do not use super glue to repair pottery.)

Broken Mug

It’s fantastic! I honestly can’t see where it cracked. Thank you so much 🙂

One option I offer is the Japanese art of Kintsugi. When your broken pottery/ceramic (including china/porcelain) bowl or mug or vase is repaired using Kintsugi, the cracks are highlighted with gold mica, making your kintsugi pottery piece a one-of-a-kind. Kintsugi is my favourite! (And it’s not overly expensive.)

Or choose one of the two other types of repairs I offer: a clear seal, or a dark grey seal that can be used with hot food or drink. Read about the 5 Types of Pottery Repair I offer.

Pottery Repair Costs:

A repair frequently costs more than the original piece. But if your pottery is rare or has sentimental value or is otherwise irreplaceable, you will certainly want to repair your piece, not just try to find a replacement.

Broken German Pottery Stein

Really happy with the repair job on my German stein that Dave did for me. This was something I picked up from my overseas travel prior to having kids and so I was devastated to break it. The repair job is super strong and I’m stoked to have my stein back – thank you Dave!
